Information for Healthcare Providers

Your patient uses Body by AI Coach to track nutrition, follow a structured training program, and receive AI-guided coaching. This document summarises what the app does, what it does not do, and how you can share clinical guidance that the app will permanently incorporate into its coaching.

What the app does

  • Tracks macronutrient and caloric intake (protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre) using a verified food database. AI is not used for calorie arithmetic — calculations are programmatic.
  • Generates and progressively adjusts resistance-training programs based on equipment, history, and user-reported feedback.
  • Provides text-based coaching responses to fitness and nutrition questions via a 3-tier AI routing system (simple queries → low-cost model; complex coaching → Claude Sonnet).
  • Records DEXA scan data and tracks body-composition trends over time.
  • Monitors supplement intake and flags supplements that require physician clearance before being coached on.
  • Adapts all programming to patient-reported injuries, medications, and contraindications.

What the app does NOT do

  • Diagnose, treat, or manage any medical condition.
  • Prescribe medications or recommend dosage changes.
  • Override or contradict guidance provided by a licensed healthcare professional — your instructions are injected into the AI context permanently and take precedence.
  • Recommend caloric restriction below safe thresholds without surfacing a physician-consultation prompt.
  • Provide exercise recommendations during pregnancy without ACOG-compliant trimester-specific guardrails and explicit physician-clearance checks.
  • Allow AI responses that cross the medical-advice boundary — a content-safety layer blocks and logs any response that approaches diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

How to share your guidance with the app

Your patient can record your feedback directly in the app under Settings → Professional Feedback. Once saved, it is injected into every AI coaching interaction indefinitely.

Fields your patient will enter:

  • Provider type (Physician, Physical Therapist, Dietitian, Trainer, Other)
  • Date of your guidance
  • A summary of your recommendations in free text
  • Permanent restrictions (e.g., "No overhead pressing", "No running")
  • Temporary restrictions with an end date (e.g., "No lower-body loading until 2026-06-01")
  • Whether the guidance applies to exercise, nutrition, or both

Alternatively, you may write your recommendations on your practice letterhead and your patient can photograph and transcribe the key points into the app.

Safety protocols built into the app

  • Medication interactions: Beta-blockers suppress HR response — the app replaces heart-rate-based zones with RPE. Corticosteroids widen weight-tolerance windows to account for fluid shifts.
  • GLP-1 users: Protein floor is raised to 1.0–1.2 g/lb body weight; caloric minimums are enforced; nausea-driven under-eating is flagged proactively.
  • Eating-disorder gate: Pattern detection for restrictive/compensatory behaviour escalates to a safety screen and recommends professional support before continuing.
  • Emotional escalation: Keywords indicating distress, body-image concerns, or mental-health disclosure automatically switch to the highest-quality AI model and add a professional-support reminder.
  • Physician-referral flag: When the AI recommends consulting a doctor, the interaction is logged and an admin alert is generated for internal review.
